For the love of reading...

Sunday, July 6, 2014

One of my favorite activities to do with Foster is read. It is something that I started from the day he was born. I used to sit up in his room in his rocker with him and read to him every night even though he had no clue what I was saying. I have always wanted to instill a love of bedtime stories in him. This is something that I think we have been successful with. He never goes to bed without books and he always begs "MORE BOOKS MAMA!". We usually read 3 each night.
During the day he enjoys a different type of book. He likes the kind of books with tons of pictures that he can name and point out. Books like "Animals" then it will have pictures and names of tons. He enjoys these interactive ones for daytime play. He amazes me with his knowledge.

I think that reading is something that is so important to start kids on young, if you teach them to enjoy reading they can learn so much from it. I was never a young adult who enjoyed reading for fun, I regret that. I read all the time now and it is my favorite thing to do with my free time (or my moments in between busy moments). I am going to figure out how to make Foster a lover of reading through all his ages and phases if it's the last thing I do!

I thought I would share some of our favorite books with you in case you are looking for recommendations:

Pink Heels Pink Truck

1. What are you reading? Tell us about it.
I am actually reading 2 books right now. This is not typical for me but I STRUGGLING with one of the books, it just isn't making me excited to pick up my kindle. The book I am struggling with is Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. The other book that I am readying is Girl, Undressed (A memoir) by Ruth Fowler.

2. Library or Bookstore?
Split answer! Girl, Undressed is from the bookstore but I bought it a long time ago (years, in fact). Dark Places is on my kindle so that isn't really either one =)

3. What books have you read and re-read several times?
I actually am not a repeat reader. Sorry to disappoint. The closest I have come is I have read some Harry Potter books twice.

4. What is the first book that made you fall in love with reading?
The Harry Potter series, yep, true story!

5. Who's your favorite author? Tell us so we can binge-read!
I am really digging Colleen Hoover!!! Hopeless and Losing Hope were some of my favorite books ever!

Book #1 for 2014: The Fault in our Stars

Sunday, February 9, 2014

This book was beautiful. I so appreciate an author who can take something that is heart wrenching and broken and make it beautiful... that is exactly what John Green did with this novel.

Don't let me confuse you, I cried multiple times during this book, UGLY cried. But each wave of sadness was followed by something profound and thought-provoking.

I don't want to give anything away and ruin this book for anyone so please read it! This needs to be on your list of books to read in 2014!
