Happy Birthday to ME!

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

That's right, tomorrow is my birthday. I will be 29 (ouch!). This is my LAST YEAR OF BEING YOUNG, then I have to be a grown up. BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I thought there was no better way to celebrate than to update my 30 under 30 goal list and see what I had accomplished since I made it at the beginning of december (12/5/13) and what I left to accomplish in the next year because.... let's face it friends, 1 year till 30. (cue tears and trembling)

I think I have done pretty good since december! Now I just need to get some of the zoos and parks on the list taken care of since the weather is finally going to get better! I also need to plan a weekend away for just JD and I to reconnect. Ahhhh, life.

Foster's Lorax Party: Additional Decor & The Backyard

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Throughout the house I had Seuss themed arrows that pointed people to certain things around the party, such as the food or the bounce house.

In the kitchen/dining area there was also a few other things that I made...
Wooden plaques that I painted and made. The water bottle wraps that I designed and printed as well.

In the main family room we have a couple couches and coffee tables that people could hang out and eat at. There were also lots of chairs set up. We planned to open gifts in that room as well. There were some decorations in there and I wanted to make sure and share those as well.

This is the birthday banner that I made for Foster to open his birthday presents in front of and that way it would be in the pictures!
I also made photobooth prop style lorax mustaches on sticks for party guests to take pictures with and a sign to accompany them. They turned out so cute and were a hit!

I replaced the decor on my floating shelves to match the party.  I put a couple of the tulle truffula trees that I made, a copy of the framed subway art, and a plaque and print that I actually designed and made.

Outside we had a couple umbrella covered picnic tables set up for people to eat or hang out at. We also had the bounce house, which was a HUGE hit with the kids and some adults too!

The large laminated pictures that you see on the back of the house were compliments of my cousin who is a teacher and had made them for the Seuss unit in her classroom. She graciously brought them down for us to use for the party! She was also my helper and assisted me in lots of the crafting. I could not have done it without her!

The favor at Foster's party was very movie appropriate. I made a planting station outside on my patio. I painted flower pots and had each child plant a sunflower seed in soil in their pot to take home. The whole point of the movie is real trees (plants) and planting the seed in the movie so I thought that this would be cute. I also made a card with a cute little poem and note from Foster on it. It was a hit. AND my flower is outside growing still!

Foster's Lorax Party: The Toddler Table & Treat Buffet

This room was my "pride & joy"! I pined over this treat buffet. The toddler table was a vision from the start, as there was no table when the planning began.

The Sweets & Treats Buffet turned out awesome, I think. Here are some pictures of it as a whole.

The cake was out of this world amazing! I had it made by a local baker who bakes in her home. Her business is called O So Yummy Cakes and her name is Olivia. I cannot say enough amazing things about her. I will be using her for all our of our cakes in the future! Not only did this cake look amazing but it was beyond delicious.
The cake pops that look like loraxes and the truffula tree ones were made by a teacher at Foster's school. She did an awesome job on them and they tasted AMAZING, they taste like angel food cake to me.

The other treats that I had on the table were labeled by food signs that I designed and made in my shop!

The banner above the buffet was also made by me and had the coordinating chevrons =)

The toddler table was something that I desperately wanted. In my head I pictured my little guy surrounded by his friends enjoying all the food, treats and cake but you cant do that when you are 34.5 inches tall and tables aren't built to accommodate you and your friends who range from 1 to 4 years old! Knowing this there was only one thing that we could do..... BUILD ONE! So I picked up my measuring tape and thinking cap and planned out the sizing that I wanted. My father-in-law is incredibly handy and I knew that this would be just the project for him! He was up for the task and I couldn't have been happier. The benches were a great idea because they will be a perfect size for a while even though Foster and his friends are growing. Once he built it I did all the painting. The rest is history! Here are some more pictures of the party table:

On the party table I used a table runner that was yellow chevron (chevrons were part of my theme). I made truffula trees to put down the center of the table that had tulle balls on theme to match the ones hanging from the ceilings all over the house.

I used square plates for the kids in colors that would compliment the decoration on the table and treat buffet. I made the name tags for the kids with different movie characters on them and set up the table so they would know where to sit! The wooden forks and spoons turned out so cute, I ordered them from an other etsy shop, they coordinated perfectly, and the kids actually used them!

The cups were mason jars, which help with spills, with lids and bendy straws. On the bendy straws I made 2-sided loran mustaches so that when the kids drank from them it would look like they had Lorax mustaches! So cute!

Foster's Lorax Party: The Front Door & Entryway

If you know me you know that I love parties. I go all out for my annual Halloween party and now that I have a son I go all out for his birthday parties. It is a lot easier (and cost effective) to go all out when I own an etsy shop that makes decorations. Since I am able to make everything for his parties and have all of the materials all I really have to do is find a TON of time. I am going to split this post up into a bunch of posts because I have so many pictures from his party. So this post is about the front door and entryway.

Foster has loved the Lorax since the first time that he saw it around 15 months. He is literally mesmerized by it. I knew that I wanted his second birthday to be something that he loved and a theme that was really about him.

Foster turned 2 on July 22nd and I had his birthday party on Sunday, July 21st.

Welcome to Foster's Party!
I made this wreath for the front door (the freshly painted, newly black, front door!). It was my first deco mesh wreath and I thought it turned out really well. It had a wooden 2 hanging the middle with yellow chevrons on it!

This was the view when you first walked in the front door!

This table had the Dr. Seuss Lorax book on it for the guests to sign. I made this wreath as well, I wanted it to look like the lorax!
I made a sign and framed it to tell them to please write in the book.
I also designed this subway art just for his party!!!
I made all of the tulle balls myself, which was really time consuming but they looked awesome and really mimicked the truffula trees!

Here are a couple more pictures:
